Moving is a time of distress that calls for special help, but we’re not talking about any help, especially not from our friends and families, but from a man in a van, a special kind of helper that goes the extra mile both figuratively and literally. There are plenty of reasons not to ask our close friends and family members for help during moving, and although it may be tempting, you mustn’t if you value your relationship with them. Curious, are we? Let’s jump right straight into the reasons not to solicit their assistance below:

Accountability and Responsibility

Okay, you might be wondering why shouldn’t we ask for help from someone we trust, right? Precisely because of that trust and relationship you have, you can’t expect anything to mess that up and ruin it for you. Listen, moving is an arduous process that involves heavy lifting and careful preparations. What if your friends’ goodwill turns out to be a barrier that you can’t cross, even when they’re making a mess out of your house? Or when they don’t show up on time to help you move that heavy refrigerator to the back of the van?

Since they are not paid service, you can’t expect them to be professional when it comes to a favor that you asked them to do. They are not necessarily obliged nor motivated to assist you in your errands, and worse yet, you can’t berate them for it because they’re not wrong. Asking help from your circle might seem reasonable, but it’s actually a double-edged sword, so better scratch that idea from your mind and stick with a moving service.

Injuries and Damages

The worst scenario isn’t them coming late to help you on moving day, but it is when bad injuries occur or unwanted damages that can devaluate your property and furniture in the process. Commercials and TV shows had implanted the wrong idea about moving, which made it look fun and exciting, while they’re challenging and tiring. Can you imagine if one of your friends or family members got injured while trying to lift a heavy object? Or slip and fall down the stairs? What about your belongings and house? Now, who’s going to be blamed for it, and who will pay for the hospital bills and damages sustained? Yikes. Things will definitely, get messy and tricky to deal with, so we strongly advise using a proper and trained moving service instead.

Argument and Motivation

Since they are not obliged to help you because they’re doing you a favor and the notion of you paying them to help you, albeit they’re your friends or relatives, can rub you the wrong way, so they’re not exactly skipping on their feet when coming over during the moving day. What do you think you should do when they don’t want to do something, you ask them? Like lifting heavy things, loading or unloading boxes, labeling your belongings, etc. You’ll probably end up in an argument, right? What’s the point of having your precious relationship that took years of building be jeopardized for something that a few bucks could solve?
